The Kimberley is one of the world's last great wilderness regions.
It covers an expanse of nearly 423,000 square kilometre (three times
the size of England) with a population of only 25,000 people. It is
situated in the far north west of Western Australia and it's immense
and ancient landform encompasses rugged ranges and spectacular gorges,
cascading waterfalls, mighty rivers and complex cave systems.

Kununurra
is the gateway to the Kimberley and its famous Purnululu National
Park with its outstanding Bungle Bungle massif. It is a picturesque
and modern town, established in 1960 as the centre for the Ord
River Irrigation project. The town has become the major administrative
centre for the East Kimberley, servicing farmers, pastoralists
and the rapidly developing tourism and mining industries. With
a resident population of around 6,000 it is one of the biggest
towns in the Kimberley. |

| Aboriginal legends suggest the once
vain Boab Tree gained its unusual appearance when the
gods punished it's arrogance. As a result it grew upside
down - with the roots of the tree stretching into the
sky. |
